About Jordan Construction
Jordan Construction, named after Richard Murphy’s daughter of 2 years at the time, was established in April 1992.
Richard always had an interest in the building industry and from an early age would accompany his father and grandfather to work on Saturday mornings and school holidays. His father’s company carried out construction of new homes, blocks of apartments, some commercial projects and also offered a comprehensive refurbishment and maintenance/repair service.
After leaving school with good qualifications in practical and design subjects Richard, with an interest in the mechanical and electrical, joined a respected local plant hire company and completed a four year apprenticeship.
The seeds had been set in those early school days though and after completion of the apprenticeship of the plant hire company Richard joined his father and another apprenticeship began in 1986 to learn about all aspects of the construction industry. Richard’s grandfather retired at this time and a change in circumstances lead to a short period working for two other building companies in South Dorset.
Then in early 1992 with requests from clients wishing to employ Richard directly becoming more frequent, the decision was made to establish himself as a contractor in his own right.
A good reputation as a reliable, knowledgeable, professional and conscientious contractor soon became established and this ethos has been maintained throughout the 26 years to the present day.
The Core business is to provide construction of new build projects, extensions, loft conversions, refurbishment, structural alterations and repair/maintenance. Kitchen and bathroom fitting is also a speciality and is often incorporated within an extension or refurbishment project. Assistance with any planning consent or design requirements is a service also provided.
All projects undertaken are carried out by a small team of directly employed tradesmen with carefully chosen subcontractors when required. Larger project are carried out one at a time to ensure the quality of workmanship, programme of works, health and safety requirements and the client’s expectations are maintained. Richard is job site based for most of his time to manage the projects undertaken.
Richard’s mission statement is to provide a professional building service, using his extensive knowledge and experience gained over many years. The use of traditional skills and specifying the appropriate materials and techniques, a helpful attitude, attention to detail and the ability to understand clients’ particular requirements regarding the design, budget and specification.
Richard will provide or consult with any professional architect, structural engineer, surveyor, quantity surveyor and local authority building control department should they be required or involved with the project.
There are numerous examples of Richard’s larger projects completed: around 25 home extensions, 4 new homes and many smaller refurbishment projects spanning over 25 years. Richard would be pleased to pass on details of recent clients for references.
Repeat business is common, as is recommendation, with clients seeking out Richard to work for them. Dedication and ambition as a professional has lead to long term affiliation to the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), the Government endorsed Trustmark Scheme and Partnership with Local Authority Building Control.
In 2016 Richard’s company and one of his completed projects in Weymouth was nominated for the South West finals of the LABC Building Excellence Awards.
A proud moment for Richard, his team and a great accolade indeed.
